Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory
In 2011, I evaluated the LIT program of Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's Herbst Library and Information Center. By examining their vision statement, handbook, and inventory, and by observing the librarian and staff's role in the high school setting, I made suggestions to the existing plan to accommodate what the students and faculty require most in a 21st century library environment. Together, we created a one- and five- year plan to orient the everyday tasks of the library workforce to the greater vision of the school community. These plans were based on research, student and staff surveys, and facilities statistics. This shows my capability to envision the future of a library while executing everyday tasks to work towards them.
Through Directed Fieldwork at SHCP, my learning objectives consisted of learning about Budgeting, Cataloging & Processing, Information Literacy Instruction, Presentations, and I revised their Library Manual. As a result of my efforts at SHCP, I gained a deeper understanding of what makes a school library relevant as an information center for students and staff alike.
